Consider following:

a) you have an application that needs the fastest access to the database.
Embedded engine is the best for you: you do not loose time neither in IPC
nor remote calls.
b) at the same time you need a possibility to provide a "not so fast"
access to other clients (either IPC or remote).
How are you going to achieve this without doing what Jim described or what
Nando wants?
