The alternative is for each to create a new "HKLM \SOFTWARE\Supplier" key. In Achim's case this is probably more than is required, although it is technically the right way to do things. Otherwise, I can't see how tools would benefit from a central registry location. Why would a tool want to know about other tools, or read their settings? If there is a real need here then that need should be considered and dealt with in a consistent manner by the project. Reading and writing to the registry would only be a minor part of this.
