Have you tested Jaybird?. About compliance the last version I tested of MySQL official JDBC driver is 3.0, perhaps in version 3.1 the MySQL JDBC drivers has some great enhancements, otherwise Jaybird is far more compliant with JDBC than the MySQL jdbc driver.
