Hi Steve! Normally one would consider version 6 to be more mature than version 1, but that is not the case when comparing Interbase to Firebird. The Firebird team contains many persons that formerly was involved with Interbase, but then most of them quit at a turbulent time a couple of years ago. Firebird evolved from the sources of IB 6.0 when they originally were open-sourced - and after doing a lot of bug-fixing came out with version 1.0. Firebird is a solid database, we switched from Interbase to Firebird when it was version 0.9.4 and does not regret that move. I guess IB 6.5 is a good product too, but don't really know much about it. You asked your question at firebird-test on sourcefourge - the second mail sent to this list this month. I would recommend you to rather ask your question at ib-...@ya... where there is plenty of people able to answer any question you may come up with. If you use Delphi or Borland C++ for development, I would strongly recommend using Interbase Objects - it is a pleasure to work with and wins the Delphi Informant "Best Database Connectivity" award every year.
