I was just comparing the 'look and feel' of other database offerings -
MySQL(cough, hack, splutter), postgresql, empressql, etc
They seem ok. MySQL is prob. the nicest.
Then I looked at bbc.co.uk.
Note the lack of black and white - it's dark grey on light grey, with shades
of blue for articles.
Look past the stories of the day, and peer into the 'structure' of the
page - a slim nav bar along the top, major sections, and search facilities.
The Major article is left-justified, with categories under it.
Recent articles are provided, with summary info, down the right-hand
side(which goes against the norm on the web, but research has shown that the
eye scans a page in a circular pattern clockwise from top-left).
How this applies to Firebird...Any ideas?
I'd love to see an FB site put together, that has case studies, feedback,
polls, user-submitted articles(mod'd, of course), configuration tips, etc,
all powered by an FB DB.
I have started a schema, and I can email it to anyone who'd like a look.(it
a little big to attach here)
I have also started a PHP framework based loosely on bbc.co.uk(very loose,
in fact, from scratch)
It currently starts a session, and logs when you arrived into an 'active
users' table.
I'll put it up somewhere if people are willing to throw rocks at it -
without DB
We'd need a generous person with a server equipped with FB to host it
properly.
What better way to prove the worth of a DB, than to use it on it's on
website...
Just my 0.02...
