Hi I think PHP and mysql is a good start maybe later we could convince sourceforge that firebird is better. ;-) Questions Are we going to insert noframes tags. With wich browsers are we going to test for compatibility. I was thinking of netscape, konquerer, ie and perhaps mozilla. I dont think we have to worry about backups realy, I suspect that sf does take care of that themselves. I'l do some reading and tell you what we can/cant do with zope. If you give me links to other similar tools I could perhaps make comparisons and make a recomendation. All this would probably depend on what sf support. Cheers Gerhardus |

I just downloaded zope and installed it already.... It is very impressive. I don't know HTML, and Web-programming is a spanish word for me, but I was able to create a first webpage with 5 folders in a few minutes. given the ability to do exports of the objects, mirror-synchronization would be very easy. The only problem is getting it installed on the VA-linux hardware. again here my proposal, using the firebird-site only as redirector to other servers would come to mind. do a small portal to the sourceforge-site, linking to the several mirrors. a small php-code could ping the servers and ensure no dead links occur. (I can offer the german mirror). the redirecting could happen invisible. If you want to run the site on sourceforge itself, zope can't do it, I fear, except renting a dedicated server from valinux. if it is not too expensive, I could perhaps offer some money. this is anyway all I can offer, as both, my c-knowlegde and my web-knowledge is too limited. I know how to use IB, though :-)) CU, Kaputnik (Nick Josipovic) ni...@ka... <mailto:ni...@ka...> ka...@ka... <mailto:ka...@ka...> ----------------------------------------------------------------------- superior Client/Server programming: www.IBObjects.com <http://www.ibobjects.com/> a nice Tool for Interbase: www.InterbaseWorkbench.com <http://www.InterbaseWorkbench.com> > -----Original Message----- > From: fir...@li... > [mailto:fir...@li...]On Behalf Of > Gerhardus Geldenhuis > Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2001 1:56 PM > To: Fir...@li... > Subject: [Firebird-website] Reply to some ideas > > > Hi > I think PHP and mysql is a good start maybe later we > could convince sourceforge that firebird is better. ;-) > > Questions > Are we going to insert noframes tags. > > With wich browsers are we going to test for > compatibility. Actually, I don't know Zope except that it have support for IB and it's based on Python (that I also don't know). I heard that it's quite powerful. Maybe I should learn it. But anyway, anyone here can program with/for Zope ? Regards -- Pavel |

It is a complete webserver. It is based on python and c-based objects. It can be connected to IIS or Apache, but doesn't need to, as it runs also its own webserver. You don't program html-pages anymore, but create web-objects visually in the Zope-manager, a complete management console in HTML done by zope in its own objects. Instead of html-pages you do DTML-pages which have quite impressive tags and variables. Add a style-sheet and off you go. Creating content for it is very easy. The problem is only, that you won't be able to run it on the sourceforge-site, as it needs excessive work done on their apache in order to run, and I don't think they will like this. So, running the site on sourceforge will be better done with a complete php-based solution. Well, one thing has to be said. Zope running on my old 266-PII is by far faster than php4 running on my gighertz athlon at home :-)) It seems to scale very well, and looking at the case-studies on their homepage (http://www.zope.org) leaves the impression, that zope would serve 1000's of users without a multiprozessor-monster on steroids, like asp or php would need to run on. Hi, As I said before, the off SF site would not be a problem (I hope :). If Zope would be far better solution that PHP or others, we could go with it. It's matter of effectivity. So, I'll investigate further that Zope thing (I wanted to do that for long time anyway) and I'd like defer the final word to later time. Now we should focus on what content and structure is needed, ok ? Best regards -- Pavel Firebird - the most addictive database http://firebird.sourceforge.net |
