I'm trying to use the FB ODBC driver (2.00.00.142) to connect MS Office applications to an existing FB2 database. I can create the DSN (and the Test Connection button says all is well) but when I try to actually use this connection, the Office app says "Unable to obtain list of tables from the data source". Does anyone have any advice? Michael D. Spence Mockingbird Data Systems, Inc. |

Did you try setting characterset to utf8 or unicode_fss at driver dsn config screen? Michael D. What should the setting be for the pulldown that says "Set null field SCHEMA", "Remove SCHEMA from SQL query", "Use full SCHEMA"? What does it do? |

FB works fine for me, but I'm not familiar with calling FB from ms office. Could you give a simple test script to demostrate the problem? Michael D. There's no script involved. Heres what I'm doing: Open Excel. On the new spreadsheet, select=20 Data | Import External Data | Import Data. This brings up an Open dialog to select a DSN. Click New Source. This brings up the Data Connection Wizard. Select ODBC DSN from the list and click Next. The (System) DSN I created is one of the choices. Select it, click Next and the error message appears. > -----Original Message----- > From: fir...@li...=20 > [mailto:fir...@li...] On=20 > Behalf Of bill lam > Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2007 11:59 AM > To: fir...@li... > Subject: Re: [Firebird-odbc-devel] Using FB ODBC driverwith=20 > MSOffice applications >=20 >=20 > FB works fine for me, but I'm not familiar with calling FB=20 > from ms office. Ah. Well, it behaves the same way in MS Word and Access so I guess it's a problem for MS Office 2002 in general. > -----Original Message----- > From: fir...@li... > [mailto:fir...@li...] On > Behalf Of bill lam > Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2007 12:23 PM > To: fir...@li... > Subject: Re: [Firebird-odbc-devel] Using FBODBC driverwith > MSOffice applications > > > Michael D. Hi Michael,

Thanks! It's bug.
However concerning it it is possible long to argue.
Excel query Catalogs :
SQLTables(hstmt2, "%", 0, NULL, 0, NULL, SQL_NTS, NULL, 0);
==========
Arguments
CatalogName
[Input]
Catalog name. The CatalogName argument accepts search patterns if the
SQL_ODBC_VERSION environment attribute is SQL_OV_ODBC3; it does not accept
search patterns if SQL_OV_ODBC2 is set. If a driver supports catalogs for
some tables but not for others, such as when a driver retrieves data from
different DBMSs, an empty string ("") denotes those tables that do not have
catalogs.
===================
Firebird do not supports catalogs. And Firebird ODBC return empty string
("").
For this reason you see a mistake.
However we also can a little change behaviour Firebird ODBC.
And return one string ("MYNAMEDSN").
I have checked up in this case all works as you expect.
It is all will be is added in the following build.

Not all so is bad! :-)
1) Create file to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources\Test.dsn
and add
[ODBC]
DSN=TEST
please repeat

And select Test.dsn not create new
2) > > > Data | Import External Data | Create query
select DSN and ?
