I'm using LLBLGen for creating the script and model. The script for creating the DB is DECIMAL, so is the DB end result. I verified with Flamerobin. The model is also decimal and when writing .NET code the value I'm passing for save is decimal. But as said, the return value is Int64 or long if coding in C#. I'm using Firebird Embedded. Good day, I'm using version 4.1.0.0 for .NET 4.5/4.0 with Entity Framework support of the Firebird ADO.NET Data Provider. I'm experiencing an InvalidCastException when trying to get a value of a field which I assigned the DB type as decimal. Looking further into the problem I'm seeing that the returned value is not of type decimal but instead of type Int64. Casting to Int64 solved the exception but the problem is that the returned value is not of fixed precision. As an additional note, I'm using Firebird embedded, the latest version found on the page. Good day, I'm using version 4.1.0.0 for .NET 4.5/4.0 with Entity Framework support of the Firebird ADO.NET Data Provider. And I'm getting this exception when it shouldn't. Let me further explain: I have a table *Product*, with *Code* field which is unique and with DB type as VarChar. When I save a new Product with Code = "123" and then another one with Code = "1234", I get an unique constraint exception. As you can see, the *Code* is not the same but still the exception is thrown. I used those values literally. I also have tested with "1" and then "12" and similar ones getting the same result. I examined the exception and is indeed pointing to the Product.Code field. This is part of the script generated for the DB: CREATE TABLE "Product" ( "Id" INTEGER NOT NULL, "Code" VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, ... CREATE GENERATOR "SEQ_Product"; ... ALTER TABLE "Product" ADD CONSTRAINT "PK_b975d4748fdb926b5f347dafb0a" PRIMARY KEY ... ALTER TABLE "Product" ADD CONSTRAINT "UC_de8f0404c97a0d1f3917002ab06" UNIQUE ( "Code" ); As an additional note, I'm using Firebird embedded, the latest version found on the page. Regards, Dave |

When I hit this line: conn.Open(); it breaks out of that block without throwing an exception. Actually it breaks out of that class completely, but it doesn't return a datatable so my calling class experiences a datatable == null exception, which I handle. here is the code sample where I open the connection try { if (conn == null) { conn = new FbConnection(_connstr); -- it breaks out here } switch (conn.State) { case ConnectionState.Closed: conn.Open(); break; case ConnectionState.Broken: case ConnectionState.Connecting: case ConnectionState.Executing: case ConnectionState.Fetching: conn.Close(); conn.Open(); break; } return conn.State == ConnectionState.Open; } ... then I handle any exception thrown here, except it never throws the exception. I guess it just isn't opening the connection Dixon On Wed, Mar 19, 2014 at 3:36 PM, Jiri Cincura <di...@ci...> wrote: > On Wed, Mar 19, 2014 at 8:00 PM, E. D. I am using FbClient, v4.0.30319 with VisualStudio 2012. I am experiencing an intermittent error that I wonder if anyone else has had or could tell me how to address. Here is my connection string: User=******;Password=******;Database=CBT;DataSource=localhost;Port=3050;Dialect=3;Charset=UTF8;Role=;Connection lifetime=15;Pooling=true;MinPoolSize=0;MaxPoolSize=50; This is a development environment so I am constantly starting and stopping the Db connection. At some point during every day, after creating the FbConnection, I then Open. It apparently throws an error, but my try/catch doesn't catch it. The only way to recover is to restart VS2012, or change the connection string. I've checked the event logs on the dev computer, but it doesn't give me any clue. One question I do have, should I be using the connection pooling options in the connection string with an ado.net client? Other than that, I've no idea what could be causing the issue. -- Dixon Epperson |

Hi Firebird-net-provider, As a .Net developer I have been asked to connect to a Firebird database via Entity Framework. I installed both the Data Provider and the DDEX. [cid:image002.jpg@01CF3497.1BAF19C0] Via NuGet I added Entity Framework 6.0.2 and the Firebird ADO.NET Data Provider (Entity Framework 6). [cid:image004.jpg@01CF3497.1BAF19C0] So far so good, I managed to open the ADO.Net Entity Data Model wizard, select the correct database for a database first approach. But then I get this confusing error according to the version of the database provider I have installed. [cid:image009.jpg@01CF3497.1BAF19C0] Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your advice. Kind regards, Joël Gijbels. |

Can you give more details please? What character has the "issue"? What did you try so far and what does not work as expected? Show the relevant parts of the code, please. You mention "shared drive"... but you understand that using a real SQL server (any of them, not just Firebird) you are *NOT* communicating with "the file" usually. Instead communication to the database is delegated to the server by the client. |

The begining of the discussion is here: https://github.com/cincuranet/NETProvider/pull/2 Implementation: https://github.com/zabulus/NETProvider/commit/6f9b7621cef4d9862ce6acb7c8fd8c9764ad7397 Main point is to add auto-generating values for PK column with specified DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity. Problem is how to configure behavior of such autogeneration. My implementation creates separate generator for each PK in all tables and uses IBExpert-like naming. Cincuranet suggests that it should be somehow configurated, because some users might want to have one generator for all PKs in database, and configurable naming for generator and before insertion trigger. I had suggested to use app.config separate section like entity framework does. Something like the follow: <configSections> <section name="firebird.client.net" type="FirebirdConfigurationHandler" /> </configSections> <connectionstrings> <add name="exampleConnectionString" connectionString="<some connection string values>" provider="FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient" /> </connectionstrings> <firebird.client.net> <IdentityBehavior connectionString="exampleConnectionString" generating="separate/shared" naming="some/naming/shemes" /> </firebird.client.net> What else can be added to such configuration regarding to auto-generated values? What other options or option values can be suggested? -- View this message in context: http://firebird.1100200.n4.nabble.com/Add-auto-generated-identity-for-primary-key-column-tp4635338.html Sent from the firebird-net-provider mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Thanks! Your tip got me a step further! I uninstalled the NetProvider msi package, and un-GAC'ed all the remaining FirebirdClients (yes, I actually had several). Then, I added the NetProvider-EF6 NuGet package (for the x'th time) and made sure my config was correct. Now, when I try to reverse engineer, I run into the DNET-542 issue you mention. But anyhow; I got past the other problems at least! :-) I'll just wait for the update then... Maybe you also didn't changed the config (NuGet package is not currently doing it automatically) so the designer is falling back to non-EF6 mode. Hi, I've been trying to get the Firebird ADO.NET Provider to work in Visual Studio2013 in order to reverse engineer my Firebird database in EF6, but no matter how I go about installing, I keep getting "a ton of" different error messages and weird behavior. Many of these, I have later been able to eliminate by reinstalling my .Net versions. I think maybe there were some configuration errors there, but that should be sorted out now. All .Net verification tests I have run says they're all OK. I have messed around with both the MSI installers (NetProvider 4.1.0.0 and DDEX 3.0.1) found on http://www.firebirdsql.org/en/net-provider/, and NuGet packages in Visual Studio 2013. It seems to me that I needed to "manually" download the MSI installers for NetProvider and DDEX in order to get the Server Explorer connection to function in VStudio, and that the NuGet packages are only necessary for the project references? Anyway; at this point, I have a situation where I can successfully add the database to the Server Explorer in VS, but when I try to "Update model from database" on an empty edmx file in my project, it says: "Your project references the latest version of Entity Framework; however, an Entity Framework database provider compatible with this version could not be found for your data connection. Exit this wizard, install a compatible provider, and rebuild your project before performing this action." Above this text, the only option is "Entity Framework 6.0", and it is checked and disabled (as it's the only choice). Viewing NuGet packages for project, I do have both the "EntityFramework" (v6.0.2) and "Firebird ADO.NET Data provider (Entity Framework 6)" (v6.0.2), but anyhow it still says the NetProvider is not compatible with EF6? I have tried both .Net framework 4 and 4.5, but they both failed the same way. I've scoured the net (and this list) in search of correct installation procedures, but have come up short so far... Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? This is really getting quite frustrating now. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Hello, I am using the .NET provider version 4.1.0.0 with the x86 embedded server version 2.5.2.26540. I'm new to Firebird and my goal is to use it to replace a sqlite database. My problem is that when I open an embedded database with FbConnection, my program hangs for a few seconds (sometimes up to 9!) after the Main() returns. Here's a simple example: private static void Main() { const string connectionString = "User=SYSDBA;Password=masterkey;Database=sandbox.fdb;ServerType=1"; if (! File.Exists("sandbox.fdb")) FbConnection.CreateDatabase(connectionString); using (var connection = new FbConnection(connectionString)) connection.Open(); Console.WriteLine("Finished"); // appears several seconds before program exits } Should I be doing something differently? Is this normal? Thanks, Philip |
