I was debugging a legacy application that throws NullReferenceException in .NET Framework code (which is bug, of course) and found the root source is nested IscException (of FbException) that has null value in Message property. According documentation https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.exception.message.aspx it is supposed to have an empty string value, not the null value.

[Firebird-net-provider] CommandType: What is the difference?

Hello,

 

I am using the .net provider to send queries to the database and give them
to a reporting software (combit List&Label). 

 

This looks like this: SELECT * FROM REPORT_R30(123, ,Test') 

 

Parameters are currently a part of the sql string, but will move to
parameters.

 

In this context I recieved the information to use the
CommandType.StoredProcedure.

Here is my comments about Migration:
1. readonly IFbMigrationSqlGeneratorBehavior _behavior;
Is used only in migration operations DropColumn/AlterColumn, not used
in AddColumn.
2. We have additional implementation of Check in (0,1) for boolean
fields like implemented in SsdlToSql.cs
3. CreateItemName function doesn't support names longer than 31 character.
4. Also, I don't see where IFbMigrationSqlGeneratorBehavior can be
injected from client's app code.
5. I think the generator creation code in
DefaultFbMigrationSqlGeneratorBehavior will be copied to a possible
new implementation, so it is better to split logic. See base class:

1.  I have a Firebird-2.5.4.26856_0_Win32 database which I backed up (using
Flamerobin) after renaming RDB$FIELD_NAME field values in the system table
RDB$FIELDS of the source database as under:
'SEC$USER_NAME' to 'SEC$USER_NAME_RAJIV'
'SEC$NAME_PART' to 'SEC$NAME_PART_RAJIV'

2.  I installed Firebird-3.0.0.32136_0_Win32_RC1 on Windows 10 with the
Security DB initialized for Legacy Authentication. Using Flamerobin, I
registered Server and then registered the EMPLOYEE.FDB.

3.  Then I restored the backed up FB 2.5.4 file.

4.  The Flamerobin connects to the FB 3.0 restored file but my .NET
application (Provider .NET 4.8.1.1) reports the following error :
FirebirdSql.Data.Common.IscException: I/O error during "CreateFile (open)"
operation for file "D:\HMS\APPHMS\HMSFIREBIRD\HMS.FDB"

5.  Please help.

The uninitialsied List<string> _databases member is used by FbDatabasesInfo.AddDatabase(string database) method [ _databases.Add(database)]

The beta will go out sometime this week or early next week. Beta because

It's same cause as http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/DNET-632, which is fixed. It will be released with next version.

You might see some slower connection opening if you're on high latency network.
