I'm using FB3 for a new commercial app now and I'm interested. For me, there are many occasions where I have had to write something in an SP that would have been much easier in .NET simply because I use it every day and SQL less often. Keep us informed on the progress. Regards, Rick On Mon, Jun 27, 2016 at 2:50 PM Alexander Muylaert-Gelein < amu...@ho...> wrote: > Hi Jiri > > There is interest on our behalf. Hi *, there's something I've been working on for a few evenings and weekends. As you might know, from Firebird 3 there's and interface to write a plugin that allows to execute any code as stored procedure, function or trigger. So why not to have these in .NET, right? I have a working plugin right now. Currently only stored procedures are supported. No blobs at the moment as well. You can check small example at the end of this email. Now the important part. Is there enough interest in this to keep working it? The hardest part is mostly over. Now it's just adding support for more objects and polishing it, hardening it and probably adding features based on requests (like security). * SP: recreate procedure demo ( in_int integer, in_s varchar(20), in_long bigint, in_short smallint, in_char char(20) ) returns ( out_int integer, out_s varchar(20), out_long bigint, out_short smallint, out_char char(20) ) external name 'Example!Example.Procedures.Demo' engine dotnet; * Code (not sure about the tuples yet): public static IEnumerator<Tuple<int?, string, long?, short?, string>> Demo(int? i, string s, long? @long, short? @short, string @char) { yield return Tuple.Create(i, s, @long, @short, @char); yield return Tuple.Create(i + 1, s + nameof(Demo), @long + 1, (short?)(@short + 1), @char); } -- Mgr. Seems to work in a short test. I will go that route further and see if there are some major stumbling blocks in the way (the provider's connection pooling for example). -----Original Message----- From: Jiří Činčura [mailto:ji...@ci...] Sent: Mittwoch, 22. Hi, I'm in the process of migrating a large .Net application that is using firebird embedded 2.5 to 3.0. To get a smooth transition with a minimum of user hassle and downtime it would be helpful to have both client libraries (2.5 and 3.0) used concurrently in the same process. There are presumably dozens of databases used by the process and I would like to migrate them one by one while the other databases keep running either via the 2.5 client or the 3.0 client library. Should that work? Can both libraries coexist? Can the Net. Provider cope with that scenario? |

SharpZipLib looks to be more actively maintained and with clearer and more permissive licensing. It's a dependency of most of my project anyway so I would not mind it. An alternative to an external dependency is an intree copy with unnecesary bits(eg. bzip2,tar) removed. Out of curiosity why is DeflateStream/GZipStream not enough? Hi *, Other topic to think about. The compression is Firebird is based on zlib compression. That one is not in the framework. So unless somebody contributes solid and proven implementation, when and if the compression will make it to master, I'd have to introduce dependency. Maybe some sort of optional. I successfully tested zlib from Ionic and SharpZipLib libraries. Discuss… ;) -- Mgr. Jiří Činčura Independent IT Specialist |

Does anyone have distribution info to install FB3 to run as embedded server with .net (which files are required/file locations/config file changes/etc)? Can't find anything online & trial & error is not getting me anywhere. The latest error I get is: "Could not find acceptable ICU library" ... icudt52.dll, icuin52.dll & icuuc52.dll are in the application folder. PS: FB 2.5 is installed on the machine and FB3 is distributed as an embedded server with a few apps. On Mon, Jun 6, 2016 at 12:55 PM, Jiří Činčura <ji...@ci...> wrote: > > with isql in embedded mode. I'm trying to connect to a DB using FB 3 in embedded mode using the connection string "Database=C:\\ProgramData\\TcpCommsCache\\Cache.fdb;ServerType=1;user id=sysdba;password=masterkey;" but keep getting "Your user name and password are not defined. Ask your database administrator to set up a Firebird login.", trying to do a CreateDatabase gives the same error. I have not problems doing the same with isql in embedded mode. Is the .net provider working with FB 3 in embedded mode yet? -- Cell: +27 71 750 9859 Fax: +27 86 551 5721 Email: dan...@gm... 101010 |
