[Firebird-docs] Firebird QuickStart Guide

Hi all,

The Firebird QuickStart Guide, written by Helen Borrie and recently
donated to the project by IBPhoenix, has now been fully converted to
DocBook XML.

I'm ready to commit it to CVS but before I do so: shall we keep it
under the same name? I'm asking this because in the emails we
exchanged, Helen consistently referred to it as the "Getting Started
Guide". Maybe she was just confusing it with the GSG she wrote for
IBO, but maybe she (un?)consciously thinks this is a better name.

This guide is going to be included with Firebird releases, so the name
must make clear immediately what it's all about - but I think both
names are OK in that respect.

Once committed, some of the content must be updated to reflect
Firebird 1.5 final (it's now somewhere in between).

Firebird QuickStart Guide makes a lot more sense to me.

Keep it as the Firebird Quick Start Guide.  The reason for the confusion 
(mine) is that I have the "QSG" and the "GSG".  Duh, I named it "Quick 
Start Guide" so it *wouldn't* get confused with the Getting Started with 
IBObjects.

btw, there is a version of this (1.0) doc in French, too, translated by 
Philippe Makowski, AFAIR.  Philippe, are you watching this?

I've committed it to the CVS tree now. With a few changes:

- Promoted the subsections within "Other things worth knowing" to
  top-level sections for better visibility.

- Corrected an error in the "Nulls" subsection: the second if...then
  fragment returns 'Equal' if a and b are Null. Since that's not
  surprising to someone who sees Null as a value, I pointed out that
  the fragment (also) returns 'Equal` if a is Null and b isn't.
  I also added two one-line examples and a tip to this subsection.

Preliminary HTML and PDF versions can be found at the Doc Subproject
homepage:

What needs to be done:

- Update to fully reflect 1.5 release.
- Add images to CVS (I took some screenshots and used them for the
  preliminary version, but maybe we want/need others).
- (Auto)create an index.

I don't mind doing this myself, but in the next 2 weeks I probably
won't find the time. If somebody else wants to do it, that's fine too.

OK, I have a little more time now, so I've started 1.5-ing it.
I expect it to be ready within a week (optimistic as ever :-)).

since it's a long time that I have done the last translation(s) maybe 
I'm going to do a translation into german (or if not me then I might 
find some volunteers).

I'm back from holidays  :)
docbook is not a problem for me

so have we to put the french version in the too ?
we really have to organise the internationalisation (same for the setup)

Yes
