No, Artur, I left that there intentionally.  People had a month to review=
=20
this and supply examples of what works and what doesn't.  So it can just=20
stay there until somebody does it.  Would you like to volunteer?

Hi Helen

As I told you, I'm translating the Release Notes to Portuguese.

I think that here it's the best place to discuss it, if I have any doubt.

For now, I found two problems:

1) There is a broken link in Firebird Release notes:

This link is very important, because I think it's the same documents that
Borland provide (the full set of Manuals). I wonder if the problem is on
Phoenix web site and if you can correct this on the site. These will be the
first place that new people will look.

2) Could you please remove this:

'IT WOULD BE GOOD TO GET SOME EXAMPLES HERE, PLEASE - Editor'

from the end of page 8? :)

The document his very good - btw, congratulations for this wonderful job! -
and this little detail makes it be like something incomplete.

(Argh. Don't worry about the Pt Translation: My Portuguese is much better
that this lousy English!)

Well, don't worry about it.  The PDFs still work fine after you close the=
=20
error dialog.  You will probably just have to live with opening the pdf=20
files individually;  or purchase a IB 6.5 media kit from Borland for arou=
nd=20
$50.00 US.

I don't see any reference to 2AllBooks.pdf.  The Beta docs is a file
60all.zip and there are no .pdx files in it.  I also tried downloading
an individual file, 60GetStart.zip (Getting Started) and it too has a
problem and there is no .pdx file located in the zip file.

When the full set is installed, this index file and a PDF named 
2AllBooks.pdf are installed in a "root directory", with each individual 
book in its own subdirectory underneath this root...so when you run 
2AllBooks, it uses the .pdx file to know where to locate each book.

If you downloaded the books one-by-one, you won't have this.  You should be 
able to get it by downloading and installing the whole betadocs 
kit.  Alternatively, you can just open each book yourself, as required.

Is there a fix to this?

Hi,

First, be aware that reply-to doesn't go to list but to sender. You 
need to hit reply-All and select the list as target. It's a SF mailing 
list "speciality" :-)

[Firebird-docs] Minor FIRST/LIMIT syntax change

Hi,
	Mark O. found a bug in the syntax for FIRST/SKIP that has resulting 
in a small syntax change.  The bug is as follows:

in the query "SELECT LIMIT 5 * FROM MESSAGES" the parser was treating 
'5 * FROM' as a multiplication equation.  It would generate an error 
because FROM is not valid in the equation.  The new syntax is slightly 
changed:

SELECT [LIMIT X | LIMIT ? | LIMIT ( expression )] [SKIP X | SKIP ? | 
SKIP ( expression )] ....

The difference is now X can only be a long integer constant, not a full 
expression (ie, equation).  If you want to use an equation or anything 
other than a bind variable or integer constant you *must* include the 
parens.  That is the change.

'SELECT LIMIT 5 * FROM MESSAGES' now works (and the syntax for that 
query is unchanged).  But the syntax for 'SELECT LIMIT 5*4 SKIP 1+5*3 * 
FROM MESSAGES' (notice how the bug is easy to spot here) is now 'SELECT 
LIMIT (5*4) SKIP (1+5*3) * FROM MESSAGES'

All(maybe I reach Ann this way...),
I have now finished my conversion of chapter 1 to 3 of the DataDef.pdf to
Docbook.
I've downloaded this DataDef.pdf from firebird.netfrastructure.com together
with the other pdf's like LangRef.pdf.
As you may guess I just have copied+paste the stuff from the pdf to xml. So
my question is: Am I'm doing this right? I mean especially in the face of
the similarity to the IB docs?

when I checked out the first manual draft made by David Jencks nearly all
binary files(jars, Firebird logo) are corrupted(they are all 1 byte bigger
than the original ones).. Has somebody else seen this using WinCVS?

BTW: What must I do to get cvs commit access to the "manual" module? It
seems I'm even not a member yet...

I don't have commit access, and I'm not too comfortable yet with cvs (I'm
running Windows, so getting good cvs tools that are easy to setup and use
can be a tad difficult, although jCVS looks promising).

I'll send the new qandaset.xsl to Norman Walsh when I've finished the
division transformations. Thanks for the link.
