Quick poll for all the Fire developers out there... You can respond to me directly or the list. 1) What version of Mac OS X and the development tools are you using? 2) Are you actively working on improvements to Fire? If so, please let me know so that we can make sure that there is no duplicated effort. My answers: 1) I primarily use April 2002 Developer Tools on 10.1.5 currently. 2) Working on integrating version 2.0 of the MSN library, porting to GCC3, improvement of keyboard focus handling. (And whatever easy fixes tend to pop up from time to time). -Jason -- Have a question? Have you read my Fire Frequently Asked Questions? <http://homepage.mac.com/townsend/programs/fire.html> |

OK, so Jaguar has been available for a while... just wondering how many people are using Jaguar for development vs. 10.1. -Jason |

I use the Dec 2001 tools on 10.1.5 I am not actively working on improvements, but have become fed up enough recently to be willing to take a hard look at handling custom Away messages. Of course, I'll wait to see if anyone else is already doing it. I've already taken the time to become reasonably familiar with the code. I've also not taken a look at the buglist on sourceforge in some time - there may be other things of higher priority that I could slog through. What I'd like to see happen here is add a toolbar to the window which lets you add and delete Away messages. Also, it would be cool to have a "temporary" away message option in the menu that brings up a dialog for you to type in your away message. The window should have an "I'm back" button or something that will dismiss the dialog and get rid of the temporary away message. This is on my list of things to do but I haven't started on it yet. If you want to take a look that would be great. -Jason -- Have a question? Have you read my Fire Frequently Asked Questions? <http://homepage.mac.com/townsend/programs/fire.html> |

The temporary message is a good idea - I'll look into that. One architecture-esque question I have is why the "default" messages are not (easily?) editable. It is somewhat confusing for someone like my wife to have an Away option that says something she can't change and another options (which may or may not be labelled "Away") that says something more meaningful. Such a dialog is already drawn in the BuddyWindow.nib. It appears that it just needs to be hooked up into the code. 10.1.5 December 2001 tools Since I know no one else probably cares about this, I was going to try to fix the Gerry ICQ import feature (shouldn't be too bad for a beginner) However, again, since I'm a newbie, I was browsing through the code and cant seem to find the import section so far, can anyone point me in the right direction? I did fix a problem that the Open dialog would not show up for some of the import commands back before .31.a. This code for Gerry's ICQ import would be in Icq/ICQService.m. One limitation is that you have to have a .gicq extension on the file you are importing. -Jason -- Have a question? Well after I sent Eric my buddy list file after importing from Gerry ICQ, he noticed that it imports each buddy with newline markers at the end which messes everything up. I was going to try to fix that. Brian On Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at 09:59 PM, Jason Townsend wrote: > On Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at 09:51 PM, Brian K. OK, as far as I know nothing has changed there for a few months. Let me know if you have a fix for it... I think the problem is in importContactsFromFile: in ICQService.m. -Jason On Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at 10:05 PM, Brian K.
