Debug console

Rufus Pearce

The console displays outputs from the I/O system

  • Anything that moves, thinks, triggers or errors will appear here during Play mode
  • Messages are categorised by system, including I/O, Speakers, Triggers, Doors, Timers, MonsterAI, Pathfinding, Plugins, Errors, Warnings and Info
  • Use the category and entity filters to isolate specific types of activity
  • Filter Empty hides messages reporting empty connections
  • Auto-scroll keeps the console positioned on the latest output
  • The console retains a rolling buffer of recent messages
  • Clear removes the current console output
  • Font size can be adjusted

Console commands

  • Press ~ during Play Mode to enter commands
  • Press Enter to execute a command
  • Up / Down navigates command history
  • Type help to display the available commands

Commands provide direct access to entity inspection, I/O, properties, spawning and deletion, AI debugging, rendering controls, portals, save/load functions and other runtime tools.

Plugin commands can also be registered with Fio's console system, allowing plugins to provide their own commands without modifying the core console.

See the full list of console commands or type help in the console

The Debug Console is intended to be used alongside the running simulation: observe what the engine is doing, filter the output to find the relevant event, and use console commands to inspect or modify the runtime state.
