I wanted to notify those of you who get FinkCommander through CVS or download the source code releases that I would like to switch to the April dev tools. There's another open source Cocoa project that I am interested in taking a look at that requires the April tools. Plus, as usual, I feel I just have to have the latest software, a characteristic I'm sure the cvs users, at least, share. :)
Please let me know if you believe the switch would cause you an undue hardship. My mind is not quite made up. I'll wait until at least 6/27 before making the change.... read more
The CVS version of FinkCommander now includes a command under the File menu to save the output in a plain text file. The user can choose the default save directory in Preferences:Paths. A default save name consisting of the command name and date is provided in the save panel.
This version includes a package inspector, terminate command, contextual menu for running commands, access to additional fink.conf parameters and a revamped Preferences panel.
The CVS version includes a number of new features, including a package info panel that displays the full description for selected packages, a terminate command and additional fink.conf configuration items that can be set via Preferences. The instructions for anonymous access are at:

I will probably release a new version with these features in a week or so.
Version 0.3.0 includes the ability to modify the fink.conf file through the Preferences dialog. There are also a number other new preference items, new toolbar items, and an expanded filter.
The version in CVS includes a number of new features, including the ability to change the fink.conf file through the Preferences panel and, thanks to Sylvain Cuaz, a partial French localization.
Version 0.2.1a allows the use of apt-get commands from behind a firewall. FC attempts to find and use the http_proxy environment variable. If it's unsuccessful, the user can set the variable manually in Preferences.
Release 0.2.1 of FinkCommander is now available. It fixes two bugs (I hope): (1) FC now allows the user to raise the interaction sheet (Tools:Interact with Fink) when FC stalls at a prompt. (2) FC should no longer crash on startup on a system where Fink is not in one of the specific directories FC looks at (e.g. /sw, /usr/local).
I believe I have the problems with the CVS version worked out. I checked it out and built it from scratch on my test system, and it worked fine.
Version 0.2.0, which includes a number of new features and comes in both binary and source form, has been released.
The current CVS version of FC failed to compile on my test system this morning. I will attempt to fix this soon.
The CVS version of FinkCommander includes a toolbar with an incremental search/filter, much like the one in Mail.app. There are also buttons for the install and remove commands.
