It's been some time, and no replies, but I'd just like to say that it would be great to have something like this. If "somebody" would do it, or describe the steps to do it, so that a 3rd person could pick up the task, that would be awesome. I know some math software projects that recommend installing some stuff they need via Fink, but this usually causes them a lot of support work, as people often have some trouble installing Fink completely from scratch. One of the minor annoyances with a full source bootstrap is that fink configure insists on me choosing default mirrors. I wish it would just allow me to skip that, and pick *any* default (I usually end up accepting all the suggestions put up by Fink anyway -- well, except that sometimes I try to choose only HTTP mirrors, as they cause less grief in some environments than FTP mirrors, but even that is something that could be easily automated). Now, it would be nice if fink (the package manager) would allow using a default for the mirrors during bootstrap; but if we had a mini-installer as Alexander suggests, then that would also solve this issue neatly.
