I have been running a system openssl since the start of 10.2 and I've had few problems with pkgs, and those that I have had issues with i've emailed the maintainers and ar e now fixed. So of course i support the movement, i think a better thing to look at are the pros and cons. same for ncurses. I don't know many of them but i do know that apple's ncurses seems to work better for me since it knows about termcap.
