Howdy!
Things are coming along quite nicely, and I thought I'd mention a few
things that are new:
- The website has been massively updated (well, I think so ;)
- FAQ is now up, mostly stolen from kopsisengineering.com's
FlashAdapter FAQ. We need more items.
- The Plugin page has been updated to work just a little bit better.
- Small changes throughout (fonts, people.) Comments requested.
- Much thinking has been going on about the software. The Plug-in
API has been worked upon. Nothing major, and nothing worth a new
semi-public release of pre3.
- The manual has been added to pre2 in HTML format, to make a few
people happy. Designed for iSilo, and it shows.
- The manual has also been uploaded to the website. Same condition.
- Tried to add a survey to the SF page, but don't have permissions. I
don't have permissions to do much on the site, come to think of it.
- I need help with this freaking scrollbar problem. Grab the latest
CVS, build it, and install it. Have a look at the "Release Notes"
dialog. If it doesn't pop-up automatically, it's available in the
Help menu. Scroll, and the problem should become evident quickly.
Have a day, all! (Or is it still just you and me, Dave? I don't have
permission to access the List Administration ;)

If you *know* something is going to be a FAQ then it probably needs improvement. > - Much thinking has been going on about the software. The Plug-in > API has been worked upon. However, I am curious why the FAFileMover plug-in architecture was abandoned? Nothing about it was incompatible with VFS - in fact I actually had a couple of unreleased VFS based FAFileMover plug-ins working. > - The manual has been added to pre2 in HTML format, to make a few > people happy. It seems to me that any developer should be able to add a survey but apparently SF disagrees. If you email what you want the survey to contain I'll be happy to set it up. However, SF's survey interface is just as bad as the rest of their website so we'd probably be better off to set up something custom using the website. There must be some good PHP scripts out there for doing polls. > - I need help with this freaking scrollbar problem. Grab the latest > CVS, build it, and install it. I just agreed to fill a last minute part-time faculty opening at a local technical college. Can't help but agree, though the data I, er, borrowed from your FAQ gave me a good quantity of example data while I worked on the display scripts. Still am, btw. I'm learning an awful lot about MySQL and PHP. > One of these days I'll read through the plug-in stuff. However, I am curious > why the FAFileMover plug-in architecture was abandoned? The old FAFileMover system was too, er, simple in my mind ;) Have a look at the header file (and/or the iSilo/HTML manual, Plugin API section ;) and all will become clear. > Still on my todo list. I'd like to eventually produce a nice typeset PDF > manual like we have for the FlashAdapter software. Would be nice. That's what the survey would be for. "What format would you like the manual to be distributed in?" a) Plain 'ol Text, b) RTF (Rich Text) c) iSilo d) Palm DOC e) PDF f) HTML I'll look into making a quiz system. EVERYTHING on the website is now my own custom PHP. The most "borrowed" code comes from the News scripts. What we need are programmers. Lots of them. :D > I'll take a look tomorrow. I just agreed to fill a last minute part-time > faculty opening at a local technical college. My only concerns are that a) I have almost finished plug-ins that could have been easily ported if we maintained some backwords compatibility with the old architecture, and b) if plug-ins really start using an API this ambitious it could cause some significant performance problems. A bunch of analysis would be required to see if that's a valid concern or not. > Would be nice. That's what the survey would be for. "What format would > you like the manual to be distributed in?" I set that survey up. Try it out and you'll see why we need a better solution :) > There can only be one admin? No, but there "should" only be one admin. Too much chance of major catastrophies if there are multiple admins. As for the "call for developers" - for every developer we get there will probably be at least 100 curious users. That's why we need to keep FileCaddy in feature freeze for now and just work on bugs. Developers never want to fix bugs they want to add new features. Without a stable baseline to start with, that's a disaster waiting to happen. FYI - I posted to the MemPlug list today to let them know about FileCaddy (and take some of the wind out of PiTech's PiMoverII release) so be prepared for some bug reports :) |
