Just do a astyle --style=kr -s2 --convert-tabs to get it back, or do some CVS trickery? I've investigated both and it seems it would be easier to do the astyle method. Tabs are religious to you, opening braces are to me. Whoa!!!!! Back the truck up. Tabs are *very* bad. Not every editor lets you
choose tab width and it's not always convenient for people to change their
editor configuration every time they want to edit the FileCaddy source code.
This is a religious issue for me so as long as Kopsis is associated with
FileCaddy the source will *not* use tabs for indenting! I initially ran
everything through astyle to remove tabs for a reason.
In the future, any "accross the board" changes like this need to be
discussed on the mailing list before they are made and committed to CVS.

Got it! Please forgive the extreme "brainstorm" style of this
message...
The filename is one character too long, by VFSHelper's reckoning. The
path is:
/Palm/Backup/Awakening of a Vampire.pd{EURO symbol}
Ohi. I guess I need to add a test to the StrCopies... I'm re-building
and testing. Either that or the last character is being corrupted
somehow. That's more likely. Hmm...
CurrentDirectory = "/Palm/Backup";
file->name = "Awakening of a Vampire";
PathLength = StrLen(CurrentDirectory) + StrLen(file->name) + 4;
Path = CurrentDirectory + "/" + FileName + ".pdb";
The culprit is in the +4... needs to be +5 :D However, now it crashes
elsewhere...
/Palm/Backup/AddressStatesDB.pdb{EURO symbol}
Ah! NULL terminator... *slaps forehead* I guess I should release pre3
soon, eh?

The tab key and CTRL-V are so close together, eh? I've installed the new VFSHelper and have re-produced the error, several times: ../Src/VFSMgr.c Line 3461 FATOpenFile, 2A08 A total of 13 files were copied before the crash (one 0-length file left over) for a total of around 58.7 kilobytes. The list was sorted by name, FYI. The file it croaked on has the following name: "Awakening of a Vampire.pdb" - a poem in WordSmith format. Other long-named files (including some symbols) have not had problems, though. -- Matthew (Darkstorm) Bevan mb...@ma... Install VFSHelper build 738 (I'm mailing it to you off-list), reproduce the
error, and give me the new line #
What I *really* need is a consistantly reproducable test case. Running with
the logging version of VFSHelper can slow things down by as much as 1000%
and generates so much data that you can't just run normally with it and wait
for the problem to pop up.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's a memory management problem in FileCaddy. If
you reproduce it with build 736 we should be able to pin it down to a
particular VFS call and that may tell us where to go look.

My only concerns are that a) I have almost finished plug-ins that could have been easily ported if we maintained some backwords compatibility with the old architecture, and b) if plug-ins really start using an API this ambitious it could cause some significant performance problems. A bunch of analysis would be required to see if that's a valid concern or not. > Would be nice. That's what the survey would be for. "What format would > you like the manual to be distributed in?" I set that survey up. Try it out and you'll see why we need a better solution :) > There can only be one admin? No, but there "should" only be one admin. Too much chance of major catastrophies if there are multiple admins. As for the "call for developers" - for every developer we get there will probably be at least 100 curious users. That's why we need to keep FileCaddy in feature freeze for now and just work on bugs. Developers never want to fix bugs they want to add new features. Without a stable baseline to start with, that's a disaster waiting to happen. FYI - I posted to the MemPlug list today to let them know about FileCaddy (and take some of the wind out of PiTech's PiMoverII release) so be prepared for some bug reports :) |

Howdy!
Things are coming along quite nicely, and I thought I'd mention a few
things that are new:
- The website has been massively updated (well, I think so ;)
- FAQ is now up, mostly stolen from kopsisengineering.com's
FlashAdapter FAQ. We need more items.
- The Plugin page has been updated to work just a little bit better.
- Small changes throughout (fonts, people.) Comments requested.
- Much thinking has been going on about the software. The Plug-in
API has been worked upon. Nothing major, and nothing worth a new
semi-public release of pre3.
- The manual has been added to pre2 in HTML format, to make a few
people happy. Designed for iSilo, and it shows.
- The manual has also been uploaded to the website. Same condition.
- Tried to add a survey to the SF page, but don't have permissions. I
don't have permissions to do much on the site, come to think of it.
- I need help with this freaking scrollbar problem. Grab the latest
CVS, build it, and install it. Have a look at the "Release Notes"
dialog. If it doesn't pop-up automatically, it's available in the
Help menu. Scroll, and the problem should become evident quickly.
Have a day, all! (Or is it still just you and me, Dave? I don't have
permission to access the List Administration ;)

No chance to look at it yet. I'm currently waist deep in edit control
subclassing in WinCE so I can get Streamliner to work properly with
Transcriber. I sure wish Sharp would sell a bunch more Zauri so I could
write software for a "real" OS :)
Hopefully I'll get a chance to look at the FileCaddy manual early this week.
Any ETA on pre2?

Thanks for fixing the SF directories, correcting the web page, and setting
up my news access :)
Now that we have things up and running, here are a couple of processes that
we need to make sure we follow:
1) Every bug, no matter how small or who finds it, needs to go through the
bug tracking system. Looks like you're already doing that, so keep up the
good work :)
2) We need to move our conversations to the FileCaddy developer's mailing
list so they'll be archived for the benefit of developers who join the
project in the future. I'm copying this message to the list so if you're
subscribed, ignore the duplicate. In the future, I'll email only the list.
3) All feature request discussion needs to take place on one of the forums
or mailing lists. You should direct any customers who contact you directly
to post their comments/requests to a list or forum (or ask if you can
forward their email to the developer's list). I'm going to tweak the text of
the "Contacts" web page to discourage users from contacting developers
directly (if you're maintaining the website offline, be sure to grab my
changes).
Great work so far! I think when you get pre2 out I'm going to let the
MemPlug list know about FileCaddy :)
