    The game doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. It'd be great if it does...

    I have WINDOWS 7 and works fine

    I downloaded "fheroes2-20091127-win32-r1375.zip" for Windows 7
    Ultimate(32bit). Unzipped the file, and then double clicked "fheroes2.exe." A
    small black screen appeared titled "Free Heroes II Version...," then quickly
    disappeared. Any idea why?

    Is there a stderr.txt or stdout.txt file in the directory? It would be helpful
    to see their contents.

    stderr.txt

    Error::Except: FHeroes2: AGG data files not found.

    stdout.txt

    config: C:\Users\t\Desktop\fheroes2\fheroes2.cfg load.
    AGG::Cache::Dump:

    That means that you're missing the AGG file from the original game that's
    necessary to play. Copy fheroes2.agg from the original CD to the data/
    subdirectory of fheroes2.

    Original CD as in the Game CD? Don't have that anymore... Didn't realize that
    I needed it to play. Thought this was the substitute...

    We just provide the engine. The original data files are still required.

    It's actually "heroes2.agg" you need if you just want to run the base game, but you need "heroes2x.agg" as well if you want to run fheroes2 with expansion content. They need to be installed in the DATA subdirectory of the main game directory.
