In Heroes of Might and Magic II, the AI always targets my range attackers (like archers) first, this is especially noticeable with the enemy's flying creatures, which swarm around my archers. In fheroes2, range attackers do not get prioritised by the AI.

I can tell you, this is probably done on purpose. I believe the AI has been tweaked and updated to be more intelligent and logical. Keep in mind that the more advanced AI in Heroes III had the flying units attacking other units other than just ranged attackers.

It's kind of boring after a while when flying units always go for your ranged attackers. It gets predictable and I could often find myself predicting the computer's moves. This should not be the case, or at least to a much lesser extent.

The original AI was sometimes a bit over-the-top in this regard, but the AI in fheroes2 can make battles that should be tricky very easy. Leaving the ranged attackers unmarked means they can do full damage every turn.

Yes, I believe the AI should prioritize ranged attackers, as long as there are not melee troops in range that are likely to do more damage. I mean, if you only have a very weak ranged stack that can't do much damage, it may make sense to attack fliers or walkers first. The AI needs to make a careful, calculated decision, but it is true, ranged stacks should usually be blocked as a matter of priority.

    Best regards,
    Steven.

Another high priority could be for the AI to unblock their own (preferably fast) shooters, if they have enough melee or flying troops to do that (and there are enough of their shooters left).

    Best regards,
    Steven.
