When I go to the following page then the ffdshow version labelled on the download button is from the year 2004: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/ On the other hand I can find otherffdshow files e.g. on page http://button.findfiles.com/list.php?string=ffdshow_beta6_rev2527_20081219.exe&size=3967642&db=Mirrors which are from 2008 So why is the Sourceforge version so old? What is the "official" download page for ffdshow? Ben |

During installation of ffdshow (ffdshow_beta6_rev2527_20081219.exe) I am asked by the installation program in a dialog which video (and audio) formats should be decoded by ffdshow (see attached snapshot). How can I LATER (=AFTER installation) check/uncheck entries of this list? I did not found an option dialog inside ffdshow Ben |

Hi; I'm using ffdshow rev1890 (2008-03-06) and with H.264/AVC disabled, I can still play a H.264 file. In the properties of WMP v11, under Audio codec, it says "ffdshow Audio Decoder"; Under Video coded, it says "-". I'm wondering how it's possible that I"m playing this h264 file, when the codec is enabled or disabled within ffdshow... yet somehow it's working. Thoughts? Thanks, Rafael |

Hi; I've installed ffdshow rev1890 (2008-03-06) and was hoping to view a h.264 http stream from the internet using WMP v11. Doesn't seem to play... Help? Do I need to use WMP classic? In the video decoder configuration for ffdshow, the h.264/avc is enabled via libavcodec. Is there anything else I need to do in order to get this stream to play? Is support limited to files? What's the extent of H.264 support in the latest ffdshow build? Thanks!! Rafael |

Hi, I am new to ffdshow. What I'd like to use ffdshow for is mostly to be able to playback h.264 streams on Windows Media Player. However, after downloaded the ffdshow package, I am kind of lost of what to do next to hook the decoder to the Windows Media Player. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks, Pete |

Folks, I am confused about the licensing of ffdshow. It is GPL, meaning that any program using it (linked to it) will then be GPL as well. So what about WMV, when it starts it loads the ffdshow DLL, so technically either WMV is violating the GPL license (WMV is not GPL AFIK!), or I misunderstand something... The company I work for has a product that displays MPEG4 files. It uses VFW. Currently we ask our customers to license DivX. Can I suggest them safely to use ffdshow instead ? Would that violate the license ? Sincerely Olivier Singla |

Hi! I'd like to use the ffdshow video codec for encoding in VirtualDub. I have managed to encode video to MPEG-4 with DivX or XVid fourcc but I don't know if there's a reliable bitrate calculator out there for ffdshow. G=E1bor |

I'm now investigating why png export is different. did that, here is generated bitmap: http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~uzi/ffdshow/ffdshow%20grab.bmp you were right about closeness to what is beeing displayed, but not entirely. with BMP grab, resulting green in rectangles is RGB(0, 255, 0), which is what it should be (that is what mplayer returns, too). but that is not what i get from FFDSHOW (VMR9). i use small pixel shader and custom renderer (put VMR9 in renderless mode) to mask all green pixels (chroma key effect). that is how i know that green in rectangles is around RGB(x, 240, y), which is more like PNG grab result. on the other hand, edges of BMP grab are more like what i get from VMR9 (FFDSHOW). it seems that some sort of blending occured (when i compare BMP FFDSHOW grab with mplayer -vo png) which leads to green oreol around my chroma key figures... i don't want to be misunderstood, when i say blending i don't mean artefact that is due to chroma subsampling (even pixel boundary). i understand how subsampling works, and i know how to overide it (i plan to use even pixel boundary for masking). it is this additional postprocessing that is a mistery to me... best regards, aleksandar |

For now try BMP export instead of PNG. This will give you images very close to
the original. I'm now investigating why png export is different.

this is same problem i have as with decoding MPNG with FFDSHOW. it seems that some postprocessing has occur, but all filters (including postprocessing are turned off). strange enough, this postprocessing does not occur if RBG24 uncompressed avi is used. this time i prepared some documentation to back this up. first of all, test avi is created from a single png, that PNG can be found at http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~uzi/ffdshow/watch.png i used MEncoder dev-CVS-051123-22:21-4.0.2 to encode x264 lossy (qp_constant=0, encoding script is avaliable here: http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~uzi/ffdshow/x264.bat), and resulting avi is here: http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~uzi/ffdshow/watch.avi then i used "mplayer - vo png" to get frames from x264 video, this frame can be seen here: http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~uzi/ffdshow/mplayer%20-vo%20png.png also, i used grab option of FFDSHOW with quality 100 to grab very same x264 video, this frame can be seen here: http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~uzi/ffdshow/ffdshow%20grab%20quality%20100.png it can be clearly noticed that mplayer produced good frame, while FFDSHOW applied some additional filtering. mind the green edges. how do i turn this filtering off? is it necessery for me to dive into the FFDSHOW code to do this? best regards aleksandar |

that's magic! tnx alot. i tried adding resolution, and it worked for me too. but now i'm back to my old problem, frame textures i'm getting from DShow are not pixel-exact, some filtering has occured. i'm using frame textures for chroma key effect (put DShow in renderless mode, then apply simple chroma key pixel shader while rendering), so problem (filtering) is messing up the edges... funny thing is that i get this for newly created MPNG movie, but for RGB uncompressed everything is fine. i guess this means that all global filtering options are turned off (because RGB uncompressed is working fine), and some local MPNG option is turned on? i tried setting "no aspect ratio correction" and "keep original aspect ratio", but results are the same... in both cases MPNG has green (that is my chroma key color) edges, and RGB uncompressed is presented pixel-exact (no filtering - no edges). if i turn resize on (640x480), all my movies (both RBG uncompressed and MPNG) are presenting green edges - which is what i expected. this test shows that ffdshow gets involved into filtering process. do you have any idea what could cause additional filtering to occur for MPNG videos? best regards, aleksandar Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 6:37:13 AM, you wrote: > > mencoder "mf://*.png" -mf fps=0.25:type=png -ffourcc MPNG -ovc copy -nosound -o result.avi > Please forgot my previous message, I was able to create sample file > using my old mencoder build. greetings. i made MPNG movie using mencoder like this: mencoder "mf://*.png" -mf fps=0.25:type=png -ffourcc MPNG -ovc copy -nosound -o result.avi resulting avi is played by mplayer, but not by windows media player (ffdshow-20051129), it is reporting error 0x80040111, ClassFactory cannot supply requested class (DShow RenderFile() function reports this error). in ffdshow->codecs->MPNG is using libavcodec. is it possible to play this media from windows media player? or how should i made MPNG so it's played on windows? best regards, aleksandar |

Hi I have a used the DSHOW filters in the Elecard Moonlight MPEG2 suite while developing my software. The code runns fine, but when I try to use the ffdshow filters I get an ASSERTION when I call the Render() method. I use the Intelligent connect of DSHOW and do not connect the pins myself. Is there any ffdshow example code for MPEG2 somewhere that I can peek at? Kind Regards Oddvard Myrnes |

The latest build fixes the problem. Thanks for fixing it so fast, nice to finally be able to use newer builds again... :-D One more question: are you planning releasing a stable (and/or non-alpha) release in the near future. It seems that ffdshow is quite stable now, and still calling it alpha might scare off some people (?). Hello all, I've been trying to use unofficial new builds since the last offical build in november 2004 (12-10-2004, the one published on sourceforge). The 12-10-2004 version fixed my Windows XP crash problems when using for example subtitle-workshop. This problem manifested itself when task switching between subtitle workshop and another application. So the 12-10-2004 build works for me, but every new build since then manifests this problem again. I think it's a regression bug and I also think that fix in 12-10-2004 called "Fixed Windows XP explorer crashes" is related to my problem I've tried several builds from several packagers and also tried the SSE and non-SSE verions but all have the same the problem. I don't know whether more people experience this problem, but it's quite annoying. I've tried it on both my home and work PC with the following specs: Home: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Work: AMD Athlon64 3000+ Could this somehow be fixed again?
