I have a QuickTime file, which I also converted to an MP4 file using MP4Box.
When I try to play either file using ffdshow, I get video, but no audio.
When I play them in VLC I get video and audio.

The splitter is at fault. It does not provide an audio pin.
Install LAV Filters.
