I will try to have a further look into, but I'm rather not optimistic, so, even delayed, I'm not sure it would be part of next version 2.2 (whereas it would be fine). There is also ticket #372 but up to now I did not ever have a look to midi channel so I am fairly unable to say anything at that time.
