I'm assuming you'd use Apple's Firebug, which btw. is available from
their FirewireSDK package. To use Firebug, you need admin privileges on
the machine in question. I'd suggest using a G4, instead of a G3, simply
because it's faster and thus more accurate in timing.
Firebug buffers the fw traffic to memory, and you can use a command
('log') to save the full or partial contents of that buffer to a file.
You just have to remember what actions were done in which capture so
that you can make anything out of them 'offline.'
