An additional note. fetchmail (version 3.6.26) was segfaulting under FreeBSD with Ravi's .fetchmailrc suggestion. To fix it I added an 'auth password' option. My .fetchmailrc file looks like this: set no softbounce poll imap.mail.yahoo.com protocol IMAP service 993 auth password user 'use...@ya...' pass 'xxxxxxx' is 'username' ssl On Wed, Jul 10, 2013 at 8:25 AM, Attos <att...@gm...> wrote: > Hi Ravi. > > Many, many thanks for your wonderful application over the past 10 years. > > Best of luck in your future projects. > > -- > AJ > > > On Tue, Jul 9, 2013 at 1:18 PM, Ravi R <rav...@ya...> wrote: > >> Hi All, >> >> The original intention of fetchyahoo was to replace fetchmail for Yahoo! >> Mail since the free Yahoo! Another note of thanks ! Ravi R wrote: > Yahoo! Mail now supports IMAP... > http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=content&y=PROD_MAIL_MOBILE&locale=en_US&id=SLN3361 Thanks for the heads up on that. I was unaware they moved that capability to their free tier. I gather this is a result of Marissa Mayer trying to make Yahoo! Mail more competitive with Gmail. > I am officially deprecating fetchyahoo since it is no longer needed. I'll add to the chorus of thanks. I haven't used fetchyahoo in 2 or 3 years - as my use of Yahoo accounts dwindled, it became easier to manually login there once every 6 months than to keep fetchyahoo updated - but back when it was needed, it really came in handy. Joe User wrote: > Please consider that yahoo can remove the IMAP functionality at any > time. What will happen if they put fetchyahoo out of action, and then > disallow IMAP? Just think about it. They could, but it wouldn't be practical to continue expending effort keeping up with Yahoo's UI changes, while hardly no one is using fetchyahoo, having moved on to the IMAP interface. And after a few years have passed, there's a good chance the Yahoo UI will have changed so much that it'll be more work than it is worth to fix fetchyahoo to work with it. On the up side, it would be an excellent opportunity to re-implement fetchyahoo from scratch. Since it was originally created, a lot has changed in the available Perl libraries for mail handling and HTML parsing. Even back in the early 2000's when I first started using it, I had considered refactoring it to use then more modern libraries, but it worked as-is and seemed like a good enough stop-gap solution. -Tom |

Hi All, The original intention of fetchyahoo was to replace fetchmail for Yahoo! Mail since the free Yahoo! Mail supported neither POP nor IMAP. But Yahoo! Mail now supports IMAP so using fetchmail or standard mail clients is now possible and fetchyahoo is no longer necessary. I am officially deprecating fetchyahoo since it is no longer needed. Users should migrate to fetchmail or use a mail client directly (I have been using thunderbird and it works great). Using IMAP with Yahoo! Mail http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=content&y=PROD_MAIL_MOBILE&locale=en_US&id=SLN3361 Instructions for using fetchmail with Yahoo! Mail Add something like this to your .fetchmailrc file : poll imap.mail.yahoo.com with proto IMAP service 993 user 'username' there with password 'xxxxxxxxx' is 'me' here options fetchall ssl The username does not have @yahoo.com in the string. Thanks, Ravi. |

Hi All, 2.14.10 contains a fix for the problem that has prevented many people from downloading mail for the past several weeks. To do this is automatically switches back to the Yahoo! mail classic interface if needed. I recommend everyone use the --archivefolder option since Yahoo no longer has mail storage quotas and there are some inline attachments that fetchyahoo will not download. Get the new version at http://fetchyahoo.sf.net Let me know if there are any issues or any other ideas/patches . Yahoo! has reported that they will be soon disabling their classic interface (possibly as soon as June 15th). If this does happen fetchyahoo may require a fairly significant rewrite. Thanks, Ravi. |

Hello all, I'm running fetchyahoo version 2.14.7 on an account that I did not switch to the new Yahoo! Mail with no problems. I also have another account with the new Yahoo! Mail but I can not use fetchyahoo on it and version 2.14.8 crashes with this account. The problem is that the new Yahoo! Mail is Ajax based and fetchyahoo scrapes the pages in classic mode. My recommendation is to NOT switch to the new Yahoo! Mail version. Now there is no way to switch back to classic. My 2 cents. I've noticed breakage a few weeks back. I was able to get it working by switching the mail account to classic mode. [google search helped here. Basically switch off 'javascript' on the browser and then try logging in to yahoo mail. Then we get a prompt to switch it to classic mode] Since then - I received a 'service reminder' from yahoo >>>> Starting the first week of June, you will be prompted to switch to the new Yahoo! Mail <<<< So perhaps 'classic mode' will be deprecated.. Hi All, I am aware of the current fetchyahoo breakage but have not had a chance to take a closer look (and noone has submitted any patches or workarounds) . I hope to take a closer look over the next day or 2. I have been hearing that Yahoo has been completely deprecating its older interface so it may be that a partial rewrite of fetchyahoo is required in which case a fix will take a bit longer. In any case I will keep you updated with any progress. Hi All, 2.14.8 contains a fix for the problem that has prevent many people from downloading mail for the past 2 months. I apologize for taking so long with this fix. I haven't been able to find a chunk of time for figuring out this issue until today. Hi All, 2.14.4 contains a fix for the blank e-mails being downloaded and a fix for IMAPS issues. 2.14.3 contained a potential fix for the multi-hop errors but some people have reported a "server not found" error instead. That is still an open issue. Get it at http://fetchyahoo.sf.net Let me know if there are any issues (apart from the "server not found" error) or any other ideas/patches . Thanks, Ravi. |

Thanks Jon ! I just got back from vacation and haven't had the time to do the debugging and analysis you did. With your explanation I've patched the latest version and released 2.13.7 which now WorksForMe . I've also added an item to the TODO list covering the bug that a message ID should only be added to the archive file when the message has been downloaded. I consider this an open bug but it isn't trivial to fix. Thanks from all fetchyahoo users ! -Ravi ________________________________ From: Jon Baumgartner <jon...@gm...> To: fet...@li... Hi all, If you are having any problems with this or prior versions, please switch to the all-new Yahoo interface, log out and back in to your mail and then try fetchyahoo again. You can find out how to switch to the all-new Yahoo here http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/settings/mltagswitch.html This version should fix deleting of messages and downloading from the Sent folder. Get it at http://fetchyahoo.sf.net Let me know if there are any issues (apart from the bug if you use the Classic interface) or any patches . Thanks, Ravi. |
