I think fetchmail only cares is the fingerprint the same.
When google keeps changing the fingerprint whatever
I do
"openssl s_client -connect imap.gmail.com:993 -showcerts | openssl
x509 -fingerprint -noout -    md5"
and put that in .fetchmailrc
If somebody wants to impersonate gmail to me they can have my mails.
