There are other options out there - for instance I understand that getmail can delete after an interval. I've never used getmail so can't speak for how robust it is (though I'd be surprised if it was significantly less robust than fetchmail, or people wouldn't be using it and would be using fetchmail). -- Please keep list traffic on the list.
