Also note that the patch doesn't use the mandatory IMAP UID commands, but cooks its own version that is very data intensive and thus inefficient.  I think I'll go for a different approach.

Yes, it's desirable and planned for the next major release (not 6.3.X), but UIDVALIDITY is a requirement.

this is for me a very desirable feature...  it would make it possible to use the same IMAP account from different computers.  I saw this works, why not include it in the main sources?

I had planned to do something similar, but then more simply based on the timestamp of the last synchronization. it would be quicker, but at the moment it's just an idea.
