The fetchmail is running as a service in Windows XP, the emails are delivery
to an exchange server 2007 in the local lan.

Not necessarily, it could be a misinterpretation by the driver.c code.  
Sinking into an SMTP server when the internal code returns PS_IOERR  
results in said "MDA error while fetching from LOGIN@HOST" report.

However without logs not bets.
