If you're having comms problems then, given that downloading a 14 MB file over dialup will take some time, it may be related. One option you may want to look at is making use of the 30 trial period you can use VMWare for. Sadly there's nothing you can do about problems beyond the end of your network cable :) I'd, roughly, expect (if my maths is working) a 14 MB file to take about 40 minutes over a standard dialup (nominal 48 Kb/s, nothing else going on).
