While I agree that the major goal post-6.3.0 should be to fix UIDL for 
POP3 and get rid of the server-side tracking assumptions there, IMAP is a 
different story.  The whole IMAP protocol is oriented toward server-side 
state, so it seems appropriate to use it, while allowing the option of 
using client-side state instead.

Though I might just need to read this conversation more carefully.
