Thanks for the response Rob. It appears this is not a fetchmail problem so I apologize for posting to this forum. It doesn't appear to be a problem with the client either since I just confirmed that it does the same thing on another account that I have (with postfix and no procmail, no fetchmail, etc.). My mail client is basically just 'cat'ing /var/mail/chris. I can't explain why gmail has no problem with it though ... so I will continue my search elsewhere.
