Right, you'll need to disable daemon mode too:

fetchmail --nosyslog -d0 -v -v

Thanks, that at least suggests a problem with the interaction of
fetchmail and exchange.  Hopefully once you manage to get the output
requested, showing a corrupt attachment download, we'll be able to
narrow down the problem.
