Have you tried using just "user" (dropping "@somemailserver.com")?
Are there any special (ie not A-Z, a-z or 0-9) characters in your
password?
Finally, try the latest version of fetchmail, 6.2.0 is old and has a
number of known security issues. You should either be on 6.2.5.2 or
the latest 6.3.0 release candidate.
