Yes. Don't do that. Pick a name that *can't* match one of the (relatively) few top-level domains (.org, .com, .net, .info, .museum, and some others, plus the country codes like .de and .us). Or even better, register your own domain and make a local subdomain under that. :-) > In fact, I have a machine on my network just called "Janus" and if I > put that into my browser I frequently get > "https://ww3.janus.com/Janus/Retail/HomePage". Yeah, browsers expect at least a fully-qualified domain name (e.g. janus.com), and if you just type a bare machine name the browser will start guessing top-level domains (.com, .org., .net). If you want your local machine you need to make that unambiguous by setting up a local domain (and probably local DNS) and using that. -- ==============================| "A microscope locked in on one point Rob Funk <rf...@fu...> |Never sees what kind of room that it's in" http://www.funknet.net/rfunk | -- Chris Mars, "Stuck in Rewind" |

Hi, I don't want to hijack the "Re: [fetchmail-users] change helo/ehlo" thread, but I would like to ask a question about something raised there. Surely "mydomain.de" would have to be registered first? In my experience it's actually best to relax it for yourself and authenticated (initial-submit) users, but enforce it for random internet clients. That blocks a lot of spam while still allowing the broken clients that are OK to be broken. Similarly, it's quite useful to have the MTA to block outside clients who use the *server's* FQDN in the HELO. Amazing how much spam that blocks without losing legitimate mail. -- ==============================| "A microscope locked in on one point Rob Funk <rf...@fu...> |Never sees what kind of room that it's in" http://www.funknet.net/rfunk | -- Chris Mars, "Stuck in Rewind" |

Hello List, i installed fetchmail 6.3.8+SSL on Trustix. Fetching of Mails works, but delivering the mails crashes: fetchmail: SMTP< 220 mail.mydomain.de ESMTP Postfix fetchmail: SMTP> EHLO myhostname fetchmail: SMTP< 250-mail.mydomain.de fetchmail: SMTP< 250-PIPELINING fetchmail: SMTP< 250-SIZE 10240000 fetchmail: SMTP< 250-VRFY fetchmail: SMTP< 250-ETRN fetchmail: SMTP< 250 8BITMIME fetchmail: SMTP> MAIL FROM:<yy...@zz...> BODY=7BIT SIZE=1020 fetchmail: SMTP< 250 Ok fetchmail: SMTP> RCPT TO:<xx...@my...> fetchmail: SMTP< 450 <myhostname>: Helo command rejected: Host not found fetchmail: SMTP error: 450 <myhostname>: Helo command rejected: Host not found fetchmail: SMTP> RSET fetchmail: SMTP< 250 Ok How can the HELO/EHLO string be changed? According to rfc 2821 i'd like use the fqdn "myhostname.mydomain.de" as EHLO-String. "4.1.1.1 Extended HELLO (EHLO) or HELLO (HELO) [...] The argument field contains the fully-qualified domain name of the SMTP client if one is available." Thanks in advance, Florian |

Next, can you provide the output of "fetchmail --nosyslog --nodetach -vvv" (as mentioned in the FAQ) for a problem email. It is possible that, during the upgrade, your didn't preserve the configuration of your local SMTP server and it's now no longer accepting email for the domain(s) in question, hence the error from fetchmail. One test would be to email "an...@my..." from the command line. -- Please keep list traffic on the list. Hello, Using fetchmail on RH7.3 ( I believe it was version 5.9.0), multidrop worked like a charm. Now I upgraded to FC6 with fetchmail 6.3.4 and multidrop doesn't work anymore. I have tried a lot, but no success. I keep getting the message "fetchmail: no local matches, forwarding to andre" I am now using the following .fetchmailrc set postmaster "andre" poll pop.mailserver.nl aka popq.mailserver.nl aka mydomain.nl aka olm aka localhost.localdomain options envelope 'X-Envelope-To' no dns with proto POP3 user '***' with password '***' to 'info'='andre' andre 'kuiper'='rolf' rolf 'hagedoorn'='willy' willy here Can anyone help me out ? Thanks, Edwin |

Hello fellow fetchmail'ers I am trying to use fetchmail from the command line, but I can't find examples of how to do it. Specifically, I need it to get the password from the command line: I have tried something like the following fetchmail -S mail.target.com --keep --uidl poll mail.source.com proto POP3 user 'dewoller' password 'password' 'tar...@ta...' Failing this, is there a way to get fetchmail to read it's configuration from a designated run file, instead of the default '.fetchmailrc'? Thanks Dennis |

Can I suggest that while you get this tested you add the "keep" and "uidl" options so that you don't lose any more emails. Then when you're done you can change "keep" to "fetchall" and get all your emails from while you were testing. -- Please keep list traffic on the list. I setup the following on my computer and run fetchmail as a user "testjin" on my computer. Fetchmail appears to connect and get mails, it is deleting the mails off of the pop server. But I can't find them. I look in /var/spool/mail and don't see them there. I have been watching /var/spool/maillog on my computer and nothing appears to be happening while I have fetchmail running. I checked 'netstat -lnp' and postfix appears to be listening to port 25. Right now my big concern is that the mail is disappearing out of my mailbox on my ISP, but it isn't showing up anywhere. ------------------------------------------------------ .fetchmailrc poll pop3.intelliepi.com proto pop3 user 'tx...@in...' there with password 'mypass' is txjin ------------------------------------------ postfix main.cf ----------------------------------------- alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases command_directory = /usr/sbin config_directory = /etc/postfix daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix debug_peer_level = 2 html_directory = no inet_interfaces = all mail_owner = postfix mailq_path = /usr/bin/mailq.postfix manpage_directory = /usr/share/man mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, $myhostname.$mydomain, $mydomain, localhost.localdomain mydomain = internal.com myhostname = test mynetworks = 192.168.5.0/24, 127.0.0.0/8 newaliases_path = /usr/bin/newaliases.postfix queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.2.10/README_FILES sample_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.2.10/samples sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix setgid_group = postdrop unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550 -------------------------------------------------------- virtual ----------------------------------------------------- tx...@in... txjin |
