Thank you for contacting me about this. I am very sorry that I have not replied earlier. I hope that you will see that there is now an option to exit to the shell instead of rebooting.
Thank you for reporting this. I am sorry for not replying sooner. If any desktop programs are installed (eg: applications or a desktop environment) Feliz expects a user to be created. If you didn't choose a name for a user, then a default user called 'archie' is automatically created, and at the end of installation it will ask you for a password for Archie. It doesn't allow an empty password, so I cannot understand how installation completed without a password for the user. Is it a display manager...
Thank you for reporting this. I am sorry for not replying sooner. I have found the bug causing that problem, and have fixed it. Enjoy.
Hi. I am trying to use Feliz to install Arch on a 2009 Macbook pro. Everything apparently works fine until I get to the "If you know the code for your keyboard layout, please enter it now...." No matter what I enter (I have a spanish keyboard so I have tried "es", "spanish", and also "us", "uk", and a bunch of other things, I always get: "No keyboards found containing "whatever-I-type"" thanks Jose
I only put down a password for Root and I didn't file a login name or a password , but it is asking me for them when I try to boot up Feliz. Kind of a pain , if it is generic where is it listed.
I think the console fonts included with Arch do not include any suitable fonts for Japanese. This link shows all the fonts that are available ... https://alexandre.deverteuil.net/pages/consolefonts/#LatGrkCyr-8x16.psfu ... Installers that do display the right characters are probably able to work in a graphical mode.
Sorry for the long delay before replying. I have completed a huge rewrite of Feliz, and hope that many of the previous problems have been fixed. The weakness of handling EFI is really because of my inexperience. I continue to learn, but EFI will probably be Feliz's weakest part.
I can provide Japanese translation. However, displaying Japanese string may need switching to different font set. I know it is tachically possible because some distro did. But I need more research for detail procedure.
With EFI env or complex exisiting partitions, there is considerable probability that feliz would generate unbootable installation. Therefore please ask user whether he/she want reboot or going back to shell env at final step. Because experienced user can identify and handle the situation if he/she has a chance. And there is pacstrap env before rebooting.
Mightbe that problem was caused by misidentification of exisiting partitions. My impression is, feliz is quite weak if user chose existing partitions because it likely misidentified the partitions. After EFI boot fail, I tried MBR installation with sda1=BIOS boot,sda2=fat/ESP,sda3=ext4/boot and sda4=ext4 root. But feliz also failed MBR boot installation. feliz identified sda3 as swap. Then I tried SwagArch. I already know SwagArch has quite long life bugs for EFI boot installation and intel microcode.(why...
Thanks for your help and suggestions. There is clearly more work for me to do on this. Sorry it is still not fixed.
With 10.11 release, still can not generate EFI boot installation. This time, I already assigned sda1=fat32/ESP, sda2=ext4/boot and sda3=ext4 root before feliz procedure. With EFI boot only Intel CPU machine, 1 boot from feliz USB stick 2 select own select installation and exisiting partitions. The result, grub menu did not appear. With resque USB stick, I found out. ESP has no contents. /etc/fstab has two desc for / and /boot. But it does not have ESP. According to my understandig, GRUB EFI needs...
I have made major changes to the locales section of Feliz, and I hope you like what I have done. There are fewer questions, and an easy selection from a shortlist of valid locales. I am also planning to add an option to enter a locale (or more than one) manually, with each entry being checked for validity before saving. That idea is only at the planning stage at present, though.
I think intel ucode loading is necessary for Intel CPU. Obviously intel ucode loading is inappropriate for AMD CPU. cf https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Microcode
I hope you will find that this is working correctly now. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help. I am sorry for not replying sooner - I only just found your message. I will attend to your suggestion soon; first I am dealing with new translations for Feliz, and some problems with EFI. I will let you know when it is done.
Thank you. I have been busy on other things, but I will start on this soon. Thanks for your suggestion - I will include it in the code.
can not generate EFI boot
Probably best approach is, 1 ask TZ. But not use answer for locale selection 2 ask Lang 3 List possible locale list. ask which one is your locale. In this case, we don't need large locale and tz matching table. Also this approach is based on user's selection. We don't need any guess.
At 09.09 release, when I chose Asia/Tokyo as TZ and English as Lang, feliz generated en_JP.UTF-8 and en_US.UTF-8. /etc/locale.conf= en_JP.UTF-8. However, en_JP.UTF-8 is not supported by any Linux. It scared me! At Manjaro/Mint installer, their asking is little but result is better. When I chose Asia/Tokyo as TZ, English as Lang, the result is as follows. /etc/locale.gen has en_US.UTF-8 and ja_JP.UTF-8. /etc/locale.conf= en_US.UTF-8. User don't want to be asekd so many questions. Like, Is your native...

Feliz has been weak in the way it handles EFI ever since I added it. I will try to find the time to rewrite that section. Thanks for your suggestions.
ambigious partition names in guided partitioning
Thanks for reporting this. The code to display existing partitions is complex, and EFI/GPT seems to cause errors. It probably needs to be rewritten. I will look into it.
Thanks for reporting this. Sorry it did not work correctly. I will look into it.

Thank you again for your contribution. I have followed your advice and added en_US.UTF-8 as a second locale by default. It is very exciting for me, and humbling, to know that Feliz is being used around the world. As for language, although Feliz suggests a language for the chosen TZ, the suggestion can be ignored, and then a list of languages will be offered. I hope you like Feliz and continue to support it.
Thank you; I am working on it. Testing code before release.
Thank you; I will look into it.
Current feliz just generate one locale which is depedent on TZ setting. When I choose Asia/Tokyo as TZ, only available choise is ja_JP.UTF-8 or en_JP.UTF-8. Obviously later one does not exist, it may cause another problem. ja_JP.UTF-8 itself has no problem. But generating only ja_JP.UTF-8 is problematic. Because native language of Linux is en_US.UTF-8. I need en_US.UTF-8 for root operation and as fall back language. lightDM can give locale selection at login prompt when the system has more than two...
Yes, please. I am very sorry for not replying sooner. Please email me at: elizabeth@itsliz.net and I will send you a copy of the file and instructions for translating. Thank you for the offer.
Thanks. I will look into it.
I was trying to install it in a MBR laptop. I'd also like to install it in UEFI laptop. Please let me know, if that's corrected. Thank you!
I was trying to install it in a MBR laptop. I'd also like to install it in UEFI laptop. Please let me know, if that's corrected.
Thanks for your message. Are you installing on UEFI? I ask this because I have found a bug in Feliz where it does not select the correct partition on UEFI. I will try to fix it.
Hi, Say, I need to install Feliz to sda9, and it doesn't have a name. But my 1st partition sda1 is given the name lekha. When I come to the point to install, Feliz says that name of the partition is lekha, or would I like to change it. I have no way of going back, and I am not sure whether Feliz is going to install to sda1 (lekha) or to sda9. In the summary, the page before, it stated that I've chosen sda9. Tried twice and stopped going further. Can you correct this, please?
Hi, Liz. Thanks for replying. I completely forgot about the 32-bit decision. I'll install using the older ISO, as suggested. Need to geta 64-bit test laptop. Cheers, Chris
Hi, Liz Thanks for replying. I completely forgot about the 32-bit decision. I'll install using the older ISO, assuggested. Need to geta 64-bit testlaptop. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for your kind comments, Chris. Unfortunately, Arch Linux themselves are pulling the plug on their 32 bit option, so Feliz has had to follow suit. However, the previous release (feliz-2017.02.22.iso) is still available, and should work fine. It is just that Arch are removing support for 32 bit software, so the 32 bit applications in the Arch repos won't be updated. Just a reminder, by the way - whichever Feliz iso you use, it will always run the latest version of the scripts; I only produce...
