The Gekko ActiveX is compatible at the ActiveX level, but not compatible at the DOM level. Is there much done with the IE DOM? I am wondering if Firefox might be a little overkill for this, especially considering the deployment foot print. Maybe we should look at using DBISAM. It would be perfect for a project like this.=20 They even have full text indexing for improved searching. I know they have donated licenses to other open source projects so it might be worth a try. Get licenses for the key developers, and then anyone else can use the Trial version which has a nag dialog when ran outside the IDE. I guess it comes down to how many people are building their own versions instead of just downloading the prebuilt releases.
