I have seen them donate DBISAM licenses to a few OS projects. Once we resolve the GPL issue they might be up for that. I really like DBISAM. It is a great database for projects like this. Although using it would make it difficult for others to build their own versions. Another option might be to use the MSDE from Microsoft. It is free for up to 5 connections or something like that.
