Shifting gears - Fearless Geek System

So this has been a great learning experience creating my own re-spin of MX Linux for distribution. Ever since coming back from the hospital, I've been thinking about some things.

I'm not sure a) there's enough interest in this from computer users b) that I even have the time to even maintain what I eventually intended on being a full distribution. c) Also, as I've mentioned, if I'm doing my own distribution, I want to do something that stands out and makes it different. While I was trying some things that others aren't doing, it's really not enough. I was planning on putting more work into it, but I think I see where I can better put this work into.... read more

Back from the hospital

I had been facing some mental health challenges up to week and a day ago for some time. Last Tuesday, I voluntarily admitted myself into a local mental health facility, one which I had been in several times before. I'm doing much better now.

Give me a day or two to get re-situated, and I shall give you an update on the release schedule for Fearless Geek OS.

It looks like we've had 27 downloads since last week Thank you for checking out the beta releases of Fearless Geek OS so far.

Mentioned on 9to5Linux Youtube Channel

I came across this several days ago but didn't yet mention this on the blog. 9to5Linux took a look at the first beta ISO of Fearless Geek OS. Thank you, 9to5Linux. I was particularly surprised because I hadn't even promoted it all that much, as it was the first beta, and a Youtube channel already came across the respin.

Plans for this week, Website, First Release Candidate

This week, I'm working on the Fearless Geek OS website as well as documentation.

I've also re-added a few things that were missing from the third beta (missing unintentionally) that will be in Release Candidate 1, which I will release Friday or Saturday assuming no one has reported any major issues with the current beta.

Also, if I happen to get a job, that could greatly change the schedule. But as it stands right now, that's the plans for this week.

The problem with Penguins Eggs...

I don't mean to talk bad about a project. I just say this in hopes to see a project improve. I see great potential in Penguins Eggs, if done properly.

Penguins-Eggs, for those who don't know, is a remastering tool to create your own Linux ISO. It's one I was attempting to use in creating the Fearless Geek OS respin of MX Linux. Yes, MX Linux has MX Snapshot and its own live USB remastering tools. But Penguins Eggs, with its ability to use Calamares, would grant me better customization options, plus the ability to customize the bootloader screen on t he Live USB. These are things MX Snapshot doesn't offer.... read more

Fearless Geek OS 2024.1-3b is out

The third beta ISO is out. I'm sorry the second one wasn't downloadable.

Hey, I'm still a noob at doing Linux re-spins. Cut me some slack! :D

Be sure to download the latest ISO here.

Don't forget to leave feedback! Betas aren't any good if you aren't providing feedback!

Had to remove second Beta ISO, third Beta ISO coming soon.

So I had to remove the second beta ISO. Despite my computer saying it was just under 7 GB, Sourceforge said it was over 7 GB. This meant it couldn't be distributed to their mirrors. The ISO was not downloadable.

Yet no one bothered to let me know of the issue. I'm kind of bummed because I know a few of you I know personally said you would beta test this. And well, no one let me know. It's a bit disappointing.... read more

Welcome to Fearless Geek OS

So I've got Fearless Geek OS beta ISOs in pace now.

Feel free to download it, test it out, and leave feedback in the Discussion.

Yes, I'm aware that Grub and lsb-release are showing the wrong version. This will be corrected in Beta 3.
