Let me rephrase the question. Why have a special version of insmod at all? 
Why have any other version of insmod than the original one that ships with 
any Linux distro?

IOW, can we modify dprobes to make it work so you don't need a special
FITH version of insmod? 

I'm looking for an explanation of what's wrong with dprobes, that
requires us to have a special FITH version of insmod. 

I could be way off the mark here. These may be entirely two different 
& unrelated issues. 

These could be just two separate question:
1) why are we only using part of dprobes? 

2) why a special FITH version of insmod? 

Assume I don't know anything about how dprobes works, or how FITH works. 
(Because I don't)
