It should be possible to mirror a FAQ site where the
http server requires a login with a username and
password. This should work with https also.
For reference, a message was posted to the mailing
list regarding this topic on October 8, 2001 as
follows:

You would need to replace the cheeseball HTTP GET
code in maintenance.pm
to use calls on a real Perl HTTP module that knows
how to speak HTTP
Basic Authentication. It wouldn't be terribly
difficult for someone
familiar with Perl; in fact, someone on this list may
already have done
something like this.
