Hi all! I have received information that Fangs 1.0.3 displays a blank result window for some users. The problem is sometimes solved by editing the fangs preferences. There seems to be a bug in Firefox with default preferences not getting set when installing Fangs for the first time. Regards, Peter |

But when I changed the Fangs "Output Style" settings from "Default (block of text)" to "Sectioned (new section before headers)" and clicked the Fangs Reload button, Fangs displayed properly. Going to other sites and testing shows that it seems to have fixed the problem. So something's broken in the rendering of the "Default (block of text)" option. Of course, now that I'm trying to report it at SourceForge, I can't get the problem to recur. Hi! Version 0.9.3 has been released. This release has the following changes: * Refactoring of GUI and renderer to support localization. Help with localization is greatly appreciated. The original screen reader comes with voices for english, french and spanish and will use the appropriate voice if the markup is using the lang attribute. * Minor bug fixes and tweaks. * Help and tutorial added. A help icon is displayed in the top right corner. It links to the Fangs help page which explains how to use Fangs and what to look for in the output. My ambition is to add more information on how to fix common problems. Please uninstall previous versions before upgrading. Hi! Version 0.81 has been released. This is a minor release with the following changes: * Checkboxes and radiobuttons now display the title attribute value properly. Thanks to Jeanne Spellman for reporting it. * Bug where a form button was not announced fixed. * Heading announcements are new visually separated from other announcements. This makes it easier for developers to find where they are in the page. * Changed Fangs output font to sans-serif after complaints from several users. Hi! Fangs version 0.80 has been released tonight: # Initial support for frames and iframes. Fangs will now render frame content. Frame title is rendered. Deeply nested frames work in Fangs but fail in Jaws. Unsure if it is possible to replicate this bug in Fangs. # List of links tab. The list of links tab is now working. Page links are displayed in the same way as in the link navigator window of a modern screen reader. For more information see my recent blog entry "Browsing habits of screen reader users" at http://www.standards-schmandards.com/index.php?2005/01/10/13-browsing-habits # List of headings tab. The list of headings tab is now working. Page headings and their level are now available. Hi! Fangs version 0.73 has been released. This is a minor release with the following improvements: - Added rendering of definition lists (the <dl> <dt> <dd> elements). This is very useful as these elements are often used in the wrong way. Jaws will announce a definition list as "Definition list of X items. [dt value] equals [dd value]". - Fixed link count in the "Page has N links" text. Only links with hrefs are counted. (Patch submitted by Simon Carney) - Fixed bug where textarea content was rendered twice. Hi! This is to announce that version 0.72 of Fangs has been released. It can be downloaded from here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=124764&package_id=136376&release_id=290257 This release consists mainly of bug fixes: - Dollar characters got stripped away but is now back where they should be. - Fangs had trouble identifying and translating certain special characters in UTF-8 encoded web pages. Fixed. - Links referring to the same page (e.g. href="#name") should be announced "This page link". Fixed. - Links with only image content and no alt text should render the image URL. Fixed. From this version there is also experimental support for the Mozilla browser version 1.7+. It installs, but I have not had time to test it properly yet. Hi!
I have finished version 0.70 of Fangs. This version adds a lot of new
features and fixes some bugs:
* Support for form elements. This closes bug 1071295.
* Numbers are now translated properly. This means that "10,456.91" is
rendered as "ten thousand four hundred and fifty-six point nine one".
This makes it easy to spot accessibility issues with numbers in your
texts. This closes feature request 1071292.
* Hidden elements stay hidden. A HTML element with a style of
display:none will not be rendered by Fangs. This closes bug 1071299.
* Fangs updates are now delivered through Mozilla Update. I am not
entirely sure if this works yet, but it is a start. This takes care of
feature request 1073069. Anyone who knows the inner workings of
Mozilla Update and the install.rdf file are more than welcome to

Hi! This release fixes som minor bugs: - Reload now works. - Bug where fangs ouput was rendered twice is fixed (hack for mozilla bug= ). New features: - Tabs are introduced. These will hold list of links and list of headings in the future. - Context menu item is renamed and moved below the defualt items. - Fangs window title now contains the name of the site. Easier to keep more than one window open. I am in the process of setting up Fangs distribution via update.mozilla.org. This means that you will get automatic updates in the near future.
