Basic Information

Welcome to the FakeCMD wiki. Installation is quite simple for most users, but is slightly more difficult for those who want to set this as their actual command prompt, which is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED for anyone not using a virtual machine.

If you just want to use this software as a simple prank all you have to do is run the exe.

If the application comes up with a smartscreen warning, simply click "more info" then run anyway. This warning is only there because I can not afford to become a verified Microsoft pubisher because it's very expensive.

Installation (Replaces original command prompt)

  1. Regain control of the *C:\Windows\System32* directory from TrustedInstaller. Tutorials for this can be found online.
  2. Drag the FakeCMD file into the System32 directory.
  3. Rename the original "cmd.exe" file to anything else (that's not already taken by something in the folder EX: cmdreal.exe).
  4. Rename the new FakeCMD file to "cmd.exe" and you're good to go.
  5. Be aware that performing this action can result in issues with the computer, however, you can delete the FakeCMD file and rename the original to get all functionality back. Still, this should only be done in a windows virtual machine, mostly because messing with TrustedInstaller puts your system at higher risk to be destroyed by a virus.
