Hello Im using a ps3 eye camera is that good for pointtracker? Or do I have to mod it or something? I tried the normal facetracking but it doesnt work so good... I will buy a IR Track Clip Pro So will it be good?

    Hello Daniel,

A PS3Eye camera has an IR-filter, which blocks IR. So you should remove that filter and put a daylight filter in its place. There are some videos on the internet about that.

Mind you: it can be a bit tricky and you cannot use the PS3Eye for facetracking afterwards...

Oh, okay. Is it worth it?

    Hi Daniel,

I think the IR-tracking is very good, especially in darker conditions.
You can also purchase a modified PS3Eye from Delan Engineering?

Hey Daniel, I'm not sure if you changed out the IR filter or not, but if you haven't, I think at one time I had my Microsoft Webcam working with a piece of old 35mm film over the front of it, and if memory serves me correctly, it works for the PointTracker option. I just recently bought me some PS3Eyes and will test it out for you, just give me a couple of days to find out.

Whelp, I was able to get around to installing one of the PS3Eye webcams, so just like I thought, placing a small piece of 35mm film in front of it made the IR LED's show up. I did find out also some bad news about my LED's, or at least the bottom one, it may have a short in it or something because it will not stay on most of the time. Oh well, I shall have to fight that problem another day.

    Hello sf4JC

So, you just wrapped it in front of the lenses?

Hello Fabio, basically yes. I will have a look when I get home and have time, could be in about the next 7 hours though. I think I'll make a short video of it, just in case there are any "doubting Thomas's" out there. I'll be back later with what might be video of it, it will be easier to explain/show that it does work.

Well, I found out that I'm unsure if the Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 and the PS3Eye webcams for that matter come with IR filters in them, as I can see the webcams picking up (though quite faintly) the light from the IR LED's. It's night here with just the room light on, so maybe I'll get some time tomorrow afternoon testing at daylight conditions outside. I'll get to the bottom of this sooner or later to be sure. I can tell you that the 3 IR LED clip that I have is very old, and has seen better days, so that could also hinder the outcome of my tests, I'm not sure. I would sure hate to "recant" all that I have said so far, not to mention through the use of the clip and what I truly know to be true. Well, tomorrows a new day, and I have a 2 hour window of oportunity to get this done before I have another engagement to be at. Friday looks better, as long as the weather holds up. Talk to you soon.

Forgot to mention that I am picking up the LED's WITHOUT using the 35mm film.
