In version 1.4 the FTNoIR server was not actually different from the faceAPI server (in fact, the choice was ignored). In 1.5 the FTNoIR functionality was (finally?) implemented: it does not use faceAPI and so it's logical that the error does not occur…
The 'Failed to initialize APIScope' error is generated by faceAPI and there are different problems that could cause it to occur. Most of the times the web-cam is used by different software (for example Skype) and faceAPI cannot use the cam.
Have you tried running the faceAPI demo from SeeingMachines? You can download is here.
Some users with very new PC´s and W7 have reported this error to occur with FaceTrackNoIR, but not with the demo. That´s because the demo uses a newer version of faceAPI, which we haven´t been able to ´embrace´ yet. We´re working on that, but unfortunately SeeingMachines refuses to support us (non-commercial users).

Has there been any progress in resolving this? Facetracknoir was working perfectly until I upgraded my motherboard and CPU and now get this error with the same os install. The demo works fine.
I don't understand how the CPU and motherboard can prevent the software from working…
I'm using Win 7 x64 sp1 on an Asus P8P67 and i5 CPU.

this means that you have solved error: "Failed to initialize APIScope: Unspecified error". ?
Actually I have that error, and before to proced to a donation I want to be sure v1.60 is APIScope initialization error free.

I want to use the FTnoir server and client for my setup but I have download facetracknoir 1.72 and there are no options for FTnoir server or client. I have searched for plugins and addons but there web page says it come with the install. Can some please tell me what I am missing.

I've managed to solve problem with missing Dll's for FaceAPI. So the head-tracking demo is working fine.
However FaceTrackNoIR (all versions 1.3-1.5) have following error:
The soft runs fine, but when you press Start button the error message appears -"Failed to initialize APIScope: Unspecified error".
This error appears with both FaceApi and FTNoir server. But once I had FTNoir server working fine (not sure why).
Does anybody can help with this problem?
