In the original, Thurston in Paws does come to the front room when you use the bell on the table and he also follows you a bit until you leave the mill. This is missing in Exult.
After playing and playing, I'll have to mark this as invalid.
Thurston does not react to the bell, it's just that the tend shop schedule in the original had the NPC more often check up on the Avatar. Ringing the bell is not doing it, it's just always the random factor kicking in around that time when you ring it.
I'm moving this to feature requests as it would be a nice addition to the tend shop schedule :)
