#42 Database error after install

hi all, i tried installing extcal2 on our web server here at work and hooking it up to our mysql database. all worked fine, said the install was successful, however, upon continuing to login for the first time, i get hit with this...

Database error encountered
# DB Error: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

This script cannot continue until the stated errors are fixed!

...any ideas on how to fix? your help is much appreciated :)
