As much as I'd love to, if for nothing else, to get an opportunity to
learn filesystem internals (never mind having online-resizable ext3
filesystems), I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as you though, no time.

But would it get accepted into 2.4 without a maintainer?

:-(  I had been forced to convert a couple of filesystems to reiserfs on
various systems due to (relatively) frequent online resizing needs, but
had been holding out on the rest for online-resizable ext3.  I guess I
will have to rethink that.

Are there no system vendors out there that have requirements to resize
ext3 online that could sponser this work?  Are they all resolved to
using filesystems that already support online resizing and abandoning
ext3?
