There is completed support for resizing ext3 filesystems in CVS, and all it needs is likely a small update to the latest 2.4 kernel. There was some work done to implement online resizing for ext3 in 2.5 kernels, but that is old enough that it probably needs a fair amount of work/testing to get it going again.
